In a powerful demonstration of collective advocacy, the Alheri-YS Foundation, in collaboration with the Bauchi State Government and a coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs), led a vibrant 5km awareness walk and medical outreach across Bauchi metropolis to mark the 2026 World Breast Cancer Day.

Moving through key arterial routes from Destination Hotel to Government House, the campaign brought together key public health stakeholders to advocate for early detection, reduce community stigma, and champion accessible healthcare for women across the state.

Guided by the international theme “Let Hope Light the Way,” the 5th edition of the initiative emphasized that breast cancer is manageable and curable when caught early.
Speaking during the rally, Program Officer of Alheri-YS Foundation, Habiba Hassan, stressed that the walk went beyond covering kilometers—it served as an urgent call to action. She reaffirmed that early screening, timely medical intervention, and robust social support systems are critical to saving lives and proving that a diagnosis is not a death sentence.

Hassan commended the Bauchi State Government, the Ministry of Health, and partner CSOs for their sustained commitment to public health advocacy.
She noted that strong multisectoral partnerships remain vital to amplifying outreach efforts, driving community-level education, and ensuring no woman fights cancer alone.

Our Correspondent reports that the participating organizations included the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (Bauchi Chapter), Wunti Alkhairi Foundation, Behind Marygift Walls Foundation, Vic Jones Care Foundation, Made4More Empowerment Foundation, Abba Life Foundation, and Gima Charity Foundation.
