Maternal, Newborn and Child Healthcare (MNCH) in Bauchi State has received a major boost with the commissioning and operationalization of two life- saving infrastructures in the State.
The major infrastructures were the Newborn Healthcare Unit and Oxygen Plant constructed by UNICEF Nigeria in Azare General Hospital of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
While handling over the twin projects to the Bauchi State Government on Tuesday 10th December 2024 at the premises of the Hospital UNICEF Nigeria Representative Ms. Cristian Munduate described the projects as beacons of hope and resilience aimed at saving countless lives and provide a model for similar initiatives across the country for possible replication in other health facilities across the Country.
For maximum utilization of the facilities, Ms Munduate urged the State Government to complement the humanitarian effort by providing skilled manpower to maned the facilities.
She that availability of professionals to provide specialized care for premature and critically ill newborns will no doubt lead to improved healthcare outcomes.
Munduate further expressed UNICEFs appreciation IHS Nigeria and the Government of Canada for donations and partnership in the execution of the live saving projects.
Taking over the project , the State Governor Bala Mohammed admitted that the facilities provided are key to overcoming life threatening illnesses.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Honourable Muhammad Auwal Jatau, the Governor said, “With this facility, we are not only expanding the capacity of General Hospital Azare as a post-secondary health care facility, but also positively transforming the health care landscape of Bauchi and our neighboring states”.

Healthcare service delivery experts believes that the operationalizations of the twin projects will significantly improve MNCH outcomes in Bauchi State.
