In a renewed aimed at promoting economic self-reliance, 254 women from Billiri and Balanga Local Government Areas of Gombe State were recently empowered with life-changing skills.

The women, drawn from various backgrounds, received training in the production of liquid soap and body cream, positioning them to start small businesses and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.

One of the facilitators of the skills acquisition training who craved for anonymity said that, the  initiative is particularly noteworthy as the benefactor of the program did not personally know any of the participants and was not present at the events

She said that the focus was purely on empowering women, regardless of prior connections or recognition, reflecting a commitment to genuine grassroots development.

The training sessions, which emphasized practical learning, equipped the participants with the skills necessary to produce high-quality products that meet local market demands.

“With these new abilities, the women are expected to establish small-scale businesses that could significantly improve their livelihoods, enhance local economies, and reduce dependency.

“This empowerment initiative underscores the belief that sustainable development starts from the ground up. By equipping women with skills, the program is not only fostering self-reliance but also encouraging community solidarity and economic inclusivity. The ripple effect of such initiatives can have long-term positive impacts on families and communities, especially in rural areas.

The benefactor’s approach—focusing on skill acquisition rather than handouts—demonstrates a forward-thinking vision for community development. These efforts are expected to create a wave of entrepreneurship and financial independence, ensuring that the women involved are active participants in shaping their futures”, said the facilitator.

According to the trainer, “such interventions serve as a reminder of the power of empowerment and the importance of providing opportunities to those who need them most. The journey for these 254 women has only just begun, but the skills they have gained will likely have far-reaching effects in Billiri and Balanga LGAs for years to come”.
