Police Honours Bauchi Humanitarian Commissioner with Award of Service to Humanity

Bauchi State Police Command have honoured Honourable Hajara Yakubu Wanka, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management with an Award of Excellence in service to humanity.

In a well attended end of year dinner, witnessed by the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed at the Command headquarters in Bauchi recently, the State Commissioner of Police (CP) Auwal Musa Mohammed said the Award was in recognition of Hon. Hajara Wanka’s exemplary leadership quality and her dogged stance on seeing that what is meant for vulnerable target groups gets to them without any impediment.

CP Mohammed further commended Wanka and her team for successfully implementing the distribution of rice palliative across the length and breath of Bauchi State and also reaching out to new IDPs with relief materials in the aftermath of the recent civil unrest in Plateau State, stressing that it takes leadership skills, perseverance, dedication and commitment to service to humanity to achieve such feat.

The CP said that his command is proud to associate with the successes of the new ministry under the leadership of the pioneer commissioner.

Presenting the Award to the Commissioner Wanka on behalf of the Police Command, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed said that the Award was a testimony of the public confidence in the Commissioner’s performance in the short space of time she assumed duty as pioneer Commissioner of the New Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

The Governor then urged the Commissioner and staff of the ministry to redouble their efforts in justifying the confidence reposed in them by the public, pointing out that, “to whom much is given, much is expected”.

Speaking to our correspondent at the end of the Award presentation event, Honourable Hajara Wanka said that she was humbled by the Award from the State Police Command.

She said that the modest successes recorded by the infant Ministry could not have been possible without the support of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in providing the enabling environment for the Ministry to perform at optimal capacity.

Wanka also thanked the State Police Command for always being there for the Ministry in supporting it’s activities and providing the needed security for seamless operations of the Ministry.

“This Award is not for me alone, but the entire staff of the Ministry, it’s agencies and departments. We are grateful for the vouch of confidence”, said Hajara Wanka.
