In the spirit of partnership and cooperation, the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) is committed to working closely with the Bauchi State Government through its Bureau for Statistics (BBS).

The UNFPA also said that the State Bureau for Statistics (BBS) will play a vital role in producing official statistics and providing fundamental information for programme development, implementation and measuring progress towards the overall development of the State.

These statements were part of a goodwill message delivered by Deborah Tabara, Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst, UNFPA Nigeria,  at the inauguration of the Bauchi State Consultative Committee on Statistics (SCCS) recently in Bauchi.

Deborah Tabara who also doubles as the Bauchi State UNFPA Programme Officer, further said that data is key in all UNFPA’s programmes of “leaving no one behind”, and in achieving the World body’s transformative agenda.

Tabara said that the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) depends on the availability of fundamental data on population size, growth, distribution, and characteristics of populations at all levels, to monitor the progress made in human capital development.

“We therefore commend the Bauchi State Government bureau for statistics for the inauguration of the SCCS towards achieving effective coordination and enhancing strategy for development in Bauchi state

“Data will be made available for evidence-based programming and policy, improved understanding of population dynamics, socio- economic development of the state, and for tracking the progress towards the SDGs”, said Tabara.

There were other goodwill messages from other Implementing Partners, the Academia and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
