As Borno State Government slowly weather the recent flood that submerged some parts of the State Capital, Bauchi State Government has also sent it relief support to alleviate some of the hardship being faced by the displaced persons.
The Bauchi State flood support team, under the leadership of the state commissioner of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Hon. Hajara Yakubu Wanka were personally received by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri , Sunday evening.
Governor Zulum thanked his Bauchi State counterpart Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for the humanitarian support and show of concern over the flood disaster that befell the State which he described as overwhelming.
He assured the visiting from Bauchi that the State Emergency Management Agency and the flood disaster management committee set up by the Government will work hand in hand with the Bauchi State team.
Earlier on , the leader of the Bauchi team Hajara Yakubu Wanka had informed the Governor that she was instructed by her principal, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed assembled a team, drawn the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency and some line MDAs , to come to Maiduguri with a view to providing food assistance to the displaced persons.
Wanka said that under the arrangement, the Bauchi State team will be feeding 10,000 IDPs daily for a period of one week.
“Your Excellency Sir, we have come fully prepared with our food items, condiments, chefs and other vendors for this exercise. We are targeting 5000 IDPs for breakfast of Masa and another 5000 for lunch for the period of one week giving them ready-to-eat food in their camps”, said Commissioner Hajara Wanka.
The Commissioner further disclosed that 7000 mats and 7000 blankets will be handed over to the Borno state government for onward distribution to the IDPs.
Our correspondent reports that the Bauchi team also includes the Director General of SEMA, Permanent Secretary of the Humanitarian ministry and some directors from the line MDAs.
