Against the background of an alleged LGBTQ meeting purportedly held in Bauchi State, a Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) expert Abdulrazaq Umar has debunked the allegation and given more clarity to what transpired.
Umar, who described himself as a concerned Bauchi citizen was, speaking to newsmen yesterday in Bauchi over the alleged LGBTQ meeting pronouncement made by a renowned Islamic Scholar, Dr. Abdullahi Gadon Kaya during a Friday summon in Kano.
Umar said that after the viral video of the islamic cleric, he personally carried out an independent investigation and found the allegation not to be true.
He said that, contrary to what Dr. Gadon Kaya said during his summon, what took place was a meeting organised by an organisation working on HIV/AIDS.
He said that, the purpose of the meeting, which draws participants from the North East was aimed at sensitizing the general public on the scourge of SGV and how that can lead to having HIV/AIDS within communities.
He said that the organisers of the meeting had, for long, been working on the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS and had held several training programs for healthcare service providers and other key stakeholders in the field.
Abdulrazak stressed that Bauchi State is not the first State that the Organisers of the said meeting had conducted training and awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS and SGV.
On purpoted 3 Million Naira salary being paid to their volunteers, he said it is just a figment of imagination of mischief makers that peddles unfounded information, which even, common sense cannot accept.
The SRH expert then advised the general public to always verify information before making it public as, according to him, “misinformation tends to bring about disaffection between people and the government”.
