Governor Bala Calls for the Overhaul of Higher Education Curriculum

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has sounded the alarm on the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the higher education curriculum in Nigeria.

He made this call when he received the Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi and the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences Azare at the Government House, Bauchi.

The Governor’s concern is rooted in the reality that universities in Nigeria are struggling to survive, and the current curriculum is not adequately preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century. He emphasized that the issues of youth restlessness and unemployment can be addressed through a holistic reform of the higher education curriculum.

During the visit, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jakada (RTD), Pro-Chancellor of ATBU, presented the newly inaugurated governing board. Dr. Samuel Babatunde Adejare, Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences Azare, expressed gratitude to the Governor for approving the use of the ATAP Azare campus as a take-off facility for the institution. He appealed for continued government support and cooperation.

Governor Mohammed also addressed the recent security concerns around the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, assuring the visitors that measures have been taken to address the menace. His commitment to supporting educational institutions in Bauchi State was evident throughout the meeting.

The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and educational institutions in addressing the challenges facing Nigeria’s youth. Governor Mohammed’s call for a comprehensive reform of the higher education curriculum resonated with the visitors, who acknowledged the need for innovative solutions to tackle unemployment and youth restlessness.

As the delegation departed, it was clear that Governor Mohammed’s commitment to education and youth development had struck a chord. The visit marked the beginning of a fruitful partnership between the Bauchi State Government and the institutions, aimed at shaping a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth.
