Bauchi State has been selected to benefit from a World Bank Assisted intervention that is targeted at Internally Displaced Persons taking shelter and their hosts communities across the State.
The proposed intervention titled “Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities (SOLID) Project” is aimed at addressing the environmental challenges faced by IDPs and their host communities.
This hint was disclosed by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka on Wednesday 10th July, 2024 at the ongoing Bauchi State Ministerial Press Briefing that showcases the achievements of Governor Bala Mohammed’s led administration.
Hajara Wanka said that the project’s priority strategy will cover investment in the areas of Infrastructure, transportation, solid waste management, drainage, public space, agriculture and livelihood opportunities.
She said that the project is commencing soon and Bauchi State is selected among the States to benefit from Project.
While highlighting some of the major milestones of new ministry, Wanka identified the successful implementation of the seamless distribution of Federal Government’s 2 Billion Naira palliative that saw the State Government distributing 104,000 bags of 25 kg of rice across the entire 323 wards of State.
She further stated that other component of the implementation of the FG’s palliative implemented by ministry was the payments of accrued State and Local Governments Leave Transport Grand (LTG), State and Local Government Retiree Gratuity, Volunteer Health Workers and other Ad-hoc staff of BACYWARD among others.
The Commissioner also said that in the period under review all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) that migrated to the State as a result of communal crises were also given relief materials that includes food and non food items.
Wanka further informed that with the support of Governor Bala Mohammed, the ministry has successfully implemented the State owned Ramadan palliative distribution that was closely followed by Eidel Kabir distribution of food and sacrificial animals during the festivities.
“It has become imperative for me to say that all the milestones achieved was as a result of the immense support, political will and the enabling environment created by His Excellency, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for the young ministry to successfully implement it’s mandate, in line with the “My Bauchi Project” of His Excellency.
“Let me also seize this rare opportunity to express my appreciation to my colleagues, cabinet members and the press for the supporting the ministry in carrying out all of it’s programs and activities since the creation of the ministry”, said Commissioner Wanka
