……… hails government’s decision for renaming the ivory tower

The Governing Council of Bauchi State University Gadau has officially ratified and adopted the renaming of the institution to Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU).
The decision was reached by Council Members, under the Chairmanship of Professor Ango Abdullahi, during its Meeting held on Thursday, 7th May, 2024 at Yuli Campus thus signifying a milestone in the university’s rich history.
A press statement e-signed and issued by the Institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Auwal Hassan said Professor Abdullahi, expressed the Council’s unanimous decision to adopt the new name in honor of late Nigerian nationalist and politician, Sa’adu Zungur, following Governor Bala Mohammed’s signing of the bill to rename the institution as passed by the State House of Assembly.
The Governing Council expressed its full support for the renaming of the university, emphasizing the importance of honoring the memory of individuals who have played pivotal roles in shaping the history and identity of the nation.
It could be recalled that Governor Bala Mohammed’s initiative to rename the university after Sa’adu Zungur has been widely praised by various stakeholders, including faculty members, alumni, and the general public.
Sharing her opinion, Professor Fatimah Tahir, Vice Chancellor of the institution said that the renaming of Bauchi State University to Sa’adu Zungur University is a symbolic gesture that underscores the values of integrity, leadership, and excellence that the university upholds.
Professor Fatimah Tahir said that the gesture serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Sa’adu Zungur and his enduring impact on the educational landscape of Bauchi State.
The Council therefore seeks to celebrate the contributions of Sa’adu Zungur and inspire the university community to uphold the values of integrity, leadership, and service that he exemplified.
Professor Fatimah Tahir also believes that this change will serve as a symbol of the university’s dedication to academic excellence and societal impact.
The press statement said that the transition to Sa’adu Zungur University marks a new chapter in the institution’s journey, one that emphasizes the importance of preserving history, recognizing national heroes, and instilling a sense of pride and purpose in the university community.
