Governor Bala Flag off Distribution of FG’s 42,000 Metric Tonne of Grains to Vulnerable Groups in Bauchi

120, 000 vulnerable target groups are to benefit from another phase of Federal Government’s assorted food items palliative in Bauchi State.

Governor of Bauchi State Bala Mohammed disclosed this on Wednesday 12th June, 2024 at the flagging off ceremony of the FG’s 42, 000 metric tonne of food items earmarked for the State, through the National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) National Strategic Food Reserves.

Represented by the State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, the Governor  reiterated the commitment of the State Government toward ensuring hitch-free distribution exercise of the food items  to the intended group, assuring that it will be distributed judiciously and equitably, inline with the guidelines spelt out by the Federal Government.

The Governor reminded the members distribution committee that  Bauchi State Government had already set an excellent precedent in the last distribution exercises and that this time around too, the Government will be monitoring the exercise with keen interest.

“I am confident that you are going to justify the confidence repose in you in this humanitarian service to the vulnerable members of the public”,  said Governor Bala.

While handling over the food items to the State Government, Director General (DG) of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar said that on the directives of the President, 20 percent of the food items due for each LGA would be given to religious organisations (JNI and CAN), and that 3 percent to be given to boarding schools in the LGAs.

Represented by the North East Zonal Director of NEMA, Yakubu Sulaiman, the DG disclosed that food items given to Bauchi State include: 9,200 of Maize 50kg, 3, 800 bags of Millet 50kg and 10,400 bags of Sorghum 50kg.

In a similar development, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka also kickstart the distribution of Sallah Cows and Rams targeted at different segments of the community across the State.

She said that it is the traditional gesture of Governor Bala Mohammed to put smiles on the faces of some targeted groups and members of the public during such festivities.
