NIPR Bauchi  Marks 60th Anniversary,  Plant Trees to Mitigate Climate  Change

As part of activities marking the 60th Anniversary of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Bauchi State Chapter of the Institute has, on Saturday 1st June, 2024, carried out a Three Planting Campaign in the State Capital.

The tree planting activity was preceded by a 3 kilometre walk embarked upon by the State members of the NIPR that started from the Emirs Palace and terminated at the Government House Bauchi, amidst pomp and fanfare.

During the walk members were seen handpicking non-biodegradable litters along the road, symbolising the Institute’s position in maintaining clean environment and also efforts geared towards mitigating global warming.

Receiving the members on behalf of the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, who was represented by the Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Rt Hon. Danlami Ahmad Kawule,  the Governor congratulated NIPR on its 60th Anniversary.

The Governor then  noted the cordial relationship between the present administration and the institute in projecting Government activities and programs within and outside the shores of the Country in a positive manner.

Earlier, State Chapter Chairman  NIPR Bauchi State, Alhaji Rabiu Muhammad Wada told the Governor that, as part of its activities to mark its 60 years of existence in the country, the Institute has planted sixty different species of trees across Bauchi metropolis.

Wada said that the move would serve as a measure to mitigate the impact of climate change and create a more green  environment within the metropolis.

Rabiu Wada added that  activities lined up for the jubilee include media engagement, road walk,  handpicking of bio and non-biodegradable materials around the city to recreate more awareness on the need for more environment friendly city

Other activities,  according to Wada will be visits to orphanages and correctional centres, and award presentations to notable persons.

Later in the course of the activity, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Barr. Ibrahim Kashim planted a Tree to officially flag off the commencement of that segment of the Anniversary event.

Speaking on the sidelines with Journalists, the SSG said that the incorporating of tree planting as part of the activity is inline with the State’s  Government policy of keying into programs and activities that could reduce global warming and also bequest a healthy environment for the people.

Barr. Kashim then congratulated NIPR for remaining resolute in its quest for professionalism and urged them to sustain the tempo.

There was a goodwill message by the State Commissioner of Education Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru who, is also a member of the NIPR.

Dr. Dahiru said that her membership with the Institute has enhanced her capacity as communication scholar, urging other communication specialists to also avail themselves the resources at  NIPR by being members.

Highlights of the day’s activities were the symbolic planting of trees by high level Government officials, management of NIPR at the National and State level, and friends of the Institute.
