Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State on Tuesday reassured of the readiness and willingness of his administration to at all times ensure the welfare, security and wellbeing of corps members deployed to the state for national service.
The Governor who gave the assurance at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream I of the Corps Members held at the State NYSC Orientation Camp, Wailo, enjoined the corps members to see the exercise as clarion call for them to contribute their quota towards the development and advancement of a greater and better Nigeria.
Governor Bala Mohammed expressed deep appreciation to the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme for the very critical role it has been playing In the moulding and mentoring of the youth to key into the laudable programmes and policies of government over the years which has helped to fast-track the growth and development of the country in all spheres of human endeavor.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, the Governor noted that the commendable role of the Scheme in deepening democracy, particularly the patriotic role played by Corps Members has helped to bring credibility and stability to the electoral process.
“I sincerely welcome you to Bauchi State, “The Pearl of Tourism”. I want you to consider your deployment to the state as the will of God. I must admit that the three (3) weeks period of the orientation exercise will demand of you, strength, discipline, tolerance and some level of sacrifice. But be rest assured that all of these will individually and collectively form the foundation upon which your tomorrow will be built.
“There is no gainsaying the fact that the NYSC Scheme has proved to be a major unifying factor amongst our youths from different ethnic, religious and academic backgrounds. The Scheme has also imparted in the youth a tradition of industry, hard work, patriotism and loyalty in service. This is evident in the activities of Corp Members that have positively affected the socio- economic development of the country through community efforts.
“I am also aware that during this orientation exercise many of you will be trained on the basic modalities of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), Freedom of Information Act (FOI) etc. I urge you to participate fully in all camp activities. It is worthy to mention that the relevance of the NYSC Scheme in today’s Nigeria is undisputedly and positively overwhelming; hence, you have a challenge of sustaining the noble role of the scheme in nation building.”
He once again reiterated the commitment of Bauchi State Government towards according top priority to the security of corps members in any part of the State with a directive to all security agencies and community leaders not to rest on their oars in ensuring that conducive environment is created for them to live and work in line with the agenda of his administration to improve human capacity of all and sundry to effectively contribute to the peace and development of the State.
Governor Bala Mohammed who pointed out that, his administration’s youth policy is geared towards harnessing the creative talents ad ingenuity of large youthful population by empowering them through skill acquisition training in order for them to contribute to the economic development of the State, promised partnership with the NYSC Scheme for the corps Members to step down the skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development training programme they undergo during the service year.
Also speaking, the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Saless Gamawa appreciated the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting NYSC activities in the state and urged the corps members to reciprocate the gesture by discharging their assigned responsibilities diligently.
In a welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Rifkatu Daniel Yakubu said a total number of 1,276 corps members have been registered for the 3 weeks orientation exercise in the camp.
