The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU) have closed down the institution over protest by some segment of the students that was degenerating into breakdown of law and order.
Some of the students were protesting the death of a final year student of Geology Department that was alleged to have been murdered in Yelwa, a suburb community that is close to the University Campus.
Addressing Journalists today, the spokesman of the University Mallam Zailani Bappa said that the management had to take decision of closing the school in order to avert breakdown of law and order within the University community that may cascade to surrounding communities.
He said that all entreaties by the management of the school to calm the segment of the students protesting proved abortive, with some of them outrightly exhibiting disrespect to the management of the university that came to pacify them to let the police carry out their investigation.
He said that the university management was aware of the alleged murder and had promptly reported the case to the police and assured that the management will follow the case to its logical end.
Mallam Bappa further said, it is expected that all students of the institution to comply with the directive and vacate all it’s campuses with immediate effect.
