The project coordinating office of the World Bank Assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has commenced a Two Days workshop for the review and adoption of materials for Bauchi State extension agents on good animal husbandry and health practices.
The Extension Materials, which was developed by the National Coordinating office of L-PRES Abuja, and the World Bank was aimed at getting a comprehensive working tool for extension personnel in Bauchi State.
Declaring the workshop open at Yimir Hotel Conference Hall Bauchi, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, Professor Simon Madugu Yalams, said the workshop have direct impact to the Extension Agents, Farmers as well as to the wellbeing of the people of the State
He pointed out that, the developed document contains all necessary ingredient on good animal husbandry and health practices that will enhance the capacity of extension personnel, and increase the productivity of the beneficiaries, and benefiting communities, which according to him, is in line with the project development objectives of the L-PRES Project.
Prof. Yalams expressed his gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his numerous support for the development of Agricultural Sector in the State.
The Commissioner said that the workshop is a significant step that will lead to the obtaining of a comprehensive working document that will guide extension officers across the State.
“At this juncture, i urge the stakeholders to actively engage in the discussion, share your expertise and contribute to the development of innovative guides that will benefit not only the State, but set a model for others to follow, and I also believe that with the caliber of people here, an excellent Extension Material will be adopted for the State”, said Professor Yalams.
Earlier in a welcome remark, Bauchi State Project Coordinator (SPC) of L-PRES Project, Mallam Musa Adamu One, said that, he has no doubt that outcome of the Workshop will have a positive impact aim at improving service delivery in Extension Services and wellbeing of the state, geared towards the achievement of the L-PRES Project Development Objectives.
He stressed that improved Extension service delivery is a bedrock for achieving increased productivity in the respective benefiting Communities, State and Country at large.
The SPC also appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for his support to the project and provision of an enabling environment for the implementation of the project in the State.
He said that the document that is being reviewed and considered for adoption contains information, ideas, knowledge and approaches on Good Animal Husbandry and Health practices that will impact the livestock productivity in the state.
“Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, you will all agree with me that Extension service delivery is the key for achieving increase in productivity in our respective communities, State and the country at large. This will not be visible without comprehensive Extension Material that will guide our Extension activities of our Extension personnel.
“As everybody knows that knowledge is the key to success in every aspect of life likewise guidance is a prerequisite for proper utilization of knowledge acquired”, Adamu One reiterated.
Our Correspondent reports that the high calibre participants were drawn from both the Federal and State owned Tertiary Institutions, Senior Extension officers and some CSO representation.
