NUJ Election: Bauchi Council Endorses Alhassan-Abimbola Candidacy

Bauchi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has endorsed the candidacy of the current National Vice President of the Union, Alhassan Yaya, who is vying for the position of the President, and his running mate Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde.

The endorsement was announced on Tuesday evening when the campaign team of the duo,  tagged A+A, visited Bauchi Council soliciting for delegates support in the forthcoming National Elections of the NUJ billed to hold in Owerri, Imo State next week.

Addressing members of the Council, the candidate Alhassan Yaya unfolded the his plans for the NUJ when elected into office.

Some of the plans rolled out by Yaya include: Health Insurance Scheme for Journalists, striving to improve remuneration of working journalists and the resuscitation of IIJ in Bauchi State and other States across the country.

Yaya, who had served with 4 Presidents on the Union, further disclosed his plans in developing the land expanse of land belonging to the body into beautiful edifice that would attract investments and source of revenue for the NUJ, among other things.

He expressed his confidence in Bauchi Council’s support for the A+A team and also pledged not to take their support for granted.

Also speaking, the candidate vying for the office of the Vice President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde said that for the first time in the history of NUJ election, a woman is being considered for the second position, stressing that it is a good omen and a prelude to, one day, having a woman as National President of the Union.

The candidate also expressed her confidence in achieving at least 80 percent of their campaign manifesto and also called for support to actualise the plan they have for the Union.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, chairman of the Bauchi State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Umar Sai’du appreciated the A+A team for identifying with his council and also assured of the Bauchi delegates support.

Sai’du also prayed for a seamless and successful conduct of the election and the growth of the Union for the betterment of all Journalists in the Country.

There was also a goodwill message from the Council Elders Advisory Committee for the A+A team.
