In their determination to identify with the girl child, ASHH Foundation marked the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child with an inspiring event held at Royal Kids Academy and Community Day Secondary School Miri, reaching over 80 female students.
In the press release made available to our correspondent by the communication officer of the Foundation, Joseph Sule said that, the foundation’s message was focused on encouraging the girls to remain committed to their educational aspirations, emphasizing the well-known saying, “When a woman is educated, the whole community is.”
The event also focused on the global theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” highlighting the need to empower girls to secure brighter futures.
A key aspect of the event was a discussion on good menstrual hygiene practices, followed by the distribution of hygiene kits to the over 80 students to support their health and well-being.
Representatives from government ministries that attended the event, include Mrs. Esther Patrick of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Hajiya Saadatu Kabir from the Ministry of Health.
Both officials addressed the students, urging them to stay focused on their studies and encouraging them to report any suspicious or harmful behavior.
They emphasized that cases related to gender-based violence (GBV) could be reported either to the respective ministries, both of which have gender officers, or directly to ASHH Foundation for immediate action.
Mr. Victor Olagbadun, Principal of Royal Kids Academy, and Mal. Ibrahim Usman, Principal of Community Day Secondary School Miri, expressed their gratitude to ASHH Foundation for selecting their schools to mark the 2024 IDGC.
Kasia Ishaya, speaking on behalf of her fellow students, expressed appreciation to ASHH Foundation and the ministries for their support. She assured both the Foundation and the ministries that the students would take their advice to heart, remain focused on their studies, and work towards securing an education to achieve success in the future.
The activity was made possible through funding from Women for Women International, further supporting efforts to empower girls and promote gender equality.
