Nigeria and Our University Numbers

A. M. Muhammad Esq

We have 261 universities in Nigeria now ?!!!
148 private universities!
Hmm! What is the volume of our lecturers base to student ratios? And they are saying we need more, Haba!

Igbinedion University became the first licensed Private University in Nigeria, and the foundation students arrived at Okada on Friday, 15 October 1999. The University is located at Okada, and now we have 147 private universities operating in the country, according to the Executive Secretary of the NUC; Prof. Abubakar Rasheed.
This breakdown to
43 federal universities, and 48 state universities.

Please how can we need more? They will tell you lies about population (200M), and youth population growth, which statistically impossible, to have such growth, the variables of growth and insecurity doesn’t support this data, and how has university education enhanced our lives and not polytechnics or technical schools to produce craftsmen? How is that a good plan for development?

Education is good, but expecting to be employed or even mobilized for National Service is going to be impossible for FG, so where will this graduates be ?

However NUC careless about this, and like private primary schools and secondary schools, welcome to Nigeria with universities in numbers, but not in substance.
