Yelwa Clashes: Governor Bala Took On-the-Spot Assessment of Area

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has taken an on-the-spot assessment of part of Yelwa area where there was clashes between rival youth groups that almost degenerated into a full blown crises but for the proactive stance of security agencies in the state.

The clashes which claimed 3 lives and razed houses and properties worth millions of Naira was as result youth rivalry over a lady according to preliminary investigation by the police.

Commiserating with the communities during the assessment visit, immediately after returning to the State from the just concluded PDP convention Sunday evening,  the Governor described the incident as an act of some few misguided miscreants that are bent on causing misery to the public.

He requested the police to conduct thorough investigation with a view to unravelling the immediate and remote cause of clash and to ensure culprits found involved are brought to justice.

“Government will not allow bad elements in the society to disrupt the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed across the state. Those miscreants should not test the will of the Government”, the Governor warned.

Governor Mohammed also directed the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA to take inventory of the properties destroyed to enable government provide them with relief materials and also ordered the immediate deployment of police outpost at Yelwa area of Bauchi Local Government.

He also pledged to procure operational vehicles for the police and other security personnel to intensify operations to guarantee peaceful coexistence in the area.

On his part, the State Police Commissioner Umar Mamman Sanda enjoined the parents, and religious and community leaders use their pulpits in preaching the gospel of peace and tolerance for the overall development State.

Meanwhile, the 24-hour curfew imposed on the area to avoid further escalation of the incident is still in force.
