In line with it’s humanitarian services mandate, Rotary Club of Bauchi Central has conducted a medical outreach at Birshi community in Bauchi Local Government of the State.
Speaking to journalists during the outreach services, Charter President, Rotary Club of Bauchi Central Rotarian Chukwunonso Nwobi said outreach provides interventions in Malaria testing and treatment, Antenatal care, Routine immunization, COViD-19 Vaccination, deworming and eye testing and screening.
He also disclosed that the outreach is the first among series of activities to be conducted by Rotary club of Bauchi Central.
“This is the club’s way of giving back to communities especially indigent and vulnerable members of the communities”.
“I am impressed with the turn out of the people, it shows many are in need of medical care but due to paucity of funds they could not access treatment. You can see that they came out both young and old with various degrees of illnesses”, said Rotarian Nwobi.
Also speaking, the ward head of Birshi, Isa Ciroma appreciated Rotary Club for coming to their aid saying that, ” people around here find it difficult to access out of pocket treatment as most of them are peasant farmers who are struggling to cater for their families. So, coming here to get free medical attention is a big relief to us”.
Ciroma said that at community level, leaders have been sent to homes to mobilise the people to come out and access the free services, especially measles vaccine for children and deworming.
A beneficiary of the outreach services Mohammed Ahmed told our correspondent that he has been attended to and received treatment for an eye ailment free of charge.
Another beneficiary, Halima Usman said that she has been battling with eye problem for some time now and could not go to hospital due to financial constraints.
“Today i am a happy woman, I can see clearly with the aid of the glasses Rotary gave me”, said the Usman.
