A Bauchi based renowned Islamic scholar, Sheik Ahmad Tijjani Yusuf Guruntum has cautioned youths  against the misuse of the social media platforms which often leads to misinformation and breach of peace.
Sheikh Ahmad Guruntum gave the warning yesterday during a lecture in Bauchi tagged” misuse of the social media by youths and women”.
The Islamic cleric described as unfortunate and disheartening the manner in which youths and women used social media platforms to watch and post unnecessary things to the public without remorse.
He noted with concern how youths and women spends almost 24 hours of their time on internet  facilities like phones and computer sets accessing Facebook, Til Tok, and WhatsApp without considering their Islamic doctrines.
“The social media platforms are basically meant to accelerate development, now that the world has become a global village, but people now misuse the social platforms by posting false informations, incithe sentiments and divisions. I advised Muslim youths and women to use the social media platforms to propagate Islamic knowledge rather than posting immoral things because such actions would be accounted for in the hereafter” he said
Guruntum, who quoted verses from the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Hadith, said that such abuses and unguarded comments by the social media users could bring about disunity and misunderstanding among people.
The Islamic cleric who said that Islam emphasized morality and abhorred indiscipline, stressed the need for those in such habit to desist from it for their own good and the humanity.
