Yusuf Mazai, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, serving in Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Bauchi state has trained 16 youths on electrical wiring and installation in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the Corps member, who embarked on the training exercise of the youths also hoisted both Nigerian and TCN flags in the transmission company premises as part of his Community Development Service (CDS) Project.
Speaking during the distribution of Certificates to the trainees as well as inauguration of the flags in Bauchi on Friday, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Namadi Abubakar, appreciated the corps member for imparting his knowledge on them.
Represented by Mrs Gbemisola Salami, Assistant Director, Community Development Service (CDS), NYSC, Bauchi, Abubakar said corps members were expected to make their host communities better than they met them.
He however, urged the staff of the Company to take good care of the project, calling on the trainees to build themselves more on what they had learned to benefit the society.
Earlier, the Batch A corps member with registration number BA/21A/2033, said he carried out the project because Bauchi people were loving and accommodating, and he had to go round and research on how he could be of help to the state.
He explained that he first engaged himself in voluntary teaching at Government Day Secondary School, Kofar Eid, Bauchi where he was teaching basic technology.
Mazai further revealed that he later went to the community leader of Kofar Eid to provide him some youth to be effectively trained on electrical installation and house wiring.
“The community leader gave me about 16 of them whom I trained for a period of one month.
“They can do electrical house wiring and equally trace an electrical fault in any house. Even after they were given certificates of training today, I will still keep imparting them more knowledge till the end of my service year,” he said.
He called on the trainees to make sure they keep putting what they have learned into practice and also train others to be like them.
One of the trainees, Isiaka Mohammed, who appreciated the corps member for the kind gesture, also applauded NYSC for giving them the rare opportunity to learn through the corps member.
He added that none of them would have been able to afford the money to be spent to learn the skills elsewhere.
