Bashir Hassan Abubakar

A former member of House of representatives in the second Republic, Right Honourable Baba Akawu, has threatened to sue the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and the National Assembly, if they refuse to organize the Re-run election for the seat of a member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency after one week from now.

He enjoined the authorities concern to, as a matter of urgency, organise the re-run election, to fill the vacuum created by the demise of late Hon. Haruna Maitala who died Nine months ago.

This was contained in a press statement by the erstwhile law maker titled “Re: Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency Re-run Election” which was made available to Newsmen Wednesday in Jos.

He lamented that, a legislator from Kaduna who died the same week with their late member, has been rightly replaced through election conducted by INEC six months ago.

Honourable Akawu decried that, “since our senators, members of the state Assembly, Local government Chairmen and Councillors did not find it necessary to pursue the interests and rights of the constituents, i deemed it absolutely necessary, as a key stakeholder and also one of the most senior high ranking member produced by Jos North to voicing out grievances of the people”.

He therefore said that, he has already set in motion measures to drag INEC and the House of representatives to court and the National Human Rights Commission for violating rights of the people of Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.
