To bridge the leadership position that exist, resulting from the voluntary stepping down of the Co-Chair (CSO) of the Bauchi State Accountability Mechanism for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (BaSAM), new Co-chair has been appointed to lead the coalition.
In an extraordinary meeting of BaSAM, held on Wednesday 3rd, 2021 at the conference hall of NUJ Bauchi, Mr Abu John Yusuf, former secretary of the Coalition, was unanimously appointed to fill the position of the Co-chair (CSO).
Mr Abu John Yusuf, who has been with BaSAM since inception, is also the Executive Director of African Community and Environmental Health Initiatives (ACE-Hi), an NGO based in Bauchi State.
Similarly, Rabiu Garba was also unanimously appointed to the position of the secretary, that was hitherto occupied by Mr Abu.
In his acceptance speech shortly after both executives took their oath of office, Mr Abu thanked members of the Coalition for deeming it fit to appoint him as Co-chair, assuring them that he will do the best he can to move BaSAM forward and justify the confidence reposed in him.
It could be recalled that last month, the former Co-chair, Mallam Ibrahim Ladan Wunti, voluntarily stepped down from the position due to what he described as commitment to other projects that his organization is implementing in the State.
BaSAM is a Coalition, whose membership is drawn from Government MDAs, CSOs and the Media, and it is being supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded intervention, titled Evidence 4 Action Mamaye Program.
