Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, ex international boxer and sports ambassador, has called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, saying this will be in the interest of peace and justice.
Okoronkwo, who spoke to journalists, added that considering what is happening in the South East zones of Nigeria, it is his humble opinion that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu should be released on bail until the case against him in the court will be concluded.
He continued: “It is clear that the public are not happy with Nnamdi Kanu’s continuous detention in prison as that can be seen in the body language resulting in the sit-at-home on Mondays.
“The disobedience of the orders by some of the south east Governor’s against Monday’s sit-at-home has clearly shown that those Governor’s are not with their people.
“Because any person or political office holder that cannot walk freely in the neighbourhood or in the community he belongs to clearly shows that the person is seen as an enemy of the people.”
Furthermore, he said that “leaving one party to another especially politicians from PDP who are supposed to be the opposition party to APC, the central ruling political party, and from APC political party to PDP or even from APGA to PDP and APC in Nigeria clearly has shown that those politicians lack ideology of desired change as preached.
“This has contributed to the decline in delivery of dividends of democracy to the public.
According to him, politicians with different mind-set and Ideology are the major cause of the unrest being experienced in the nation today.
“Imagine APC as a party has created forum for all comers politicians to join them without considering the change they preached.
“Considering what is being experienced in Nigeria, President Buhari as an individual is striving hard to bring positive change but some of his political actors have different mind-set and Ideology,” he said.
Adding that “it is calculated that APC, the ruling party is seen as an escape route for looters.”
Speaking further, he said all these have contributed to the unnecessary Insecurity in the country.
