Governor Bala Express Concern over Cases of SGBV, Calls for Speedy Dispensation of Justice

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state expressed concern on the rising cases of sexual and gender base violence (SGBV) being perpetrated against vulnerable groups, calling on the judicial arm of government to fast track prosecution and conviction of culprits found guilty.

A statement issued by the Muktar Gidado, Adviser Media and Communications said, the governor was speaking when he hosted members of the judiciary and Nigeria Bar Association in the state on a Ramadan breakfast held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi.

The Governor frowned at other forms of crime and criminality as well as other social vices, called on critical stakeholders to join hands in ensuring speedy dispensation of justice.

He enjoined judicial arm of government in the state to establish a robust judicial and administrative framework to administer justice that will minimize congestion in correctional centres across the state.

The Governor said to achieve that, his administration will continue to work with the judiciary by creating an enabling environment required for effective and efficient administration of justice.

“I am very excited to host members of the judiciary today for iftar. I must say on behalf of the Executive , we are enjoying support and collaboration with the other two arms of government which makes it possible for us to do all the developmental projects that we are doing in Bauchi.”

He called for continued understanding and collaboration between the three arms of government in the state to enable the executive provide the needed infrastructure and services to the citizens of the state.

Also, while appreciating Nigerian Bar Association in the state, Governor Bala Mohammed declared the interest of the state government to engage members of the Bar in governance to enable them contribute positively towards the advancement of the state especially in the area of judicial system.

In their separate remarks, the State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar and the Acting Grand Khadi, Khadi Ahmed Liman while applauding Governor Bala Mohammed for the number of projects executed in the state’s High Court Complex, pledged their unflinching support for the success of his administration.

“Your Excellency, we are much grateful for this honour, in Bauchi we are having a cordial relationship between the three arms of government and as judiciary, we will maintain that.”

Earlier, the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Bauchi branch, Barrister Abubakar Abdulhamid acknowledged the foresight of the governor in working in synergy with other arms of government for growth and development of the state.
