Bauchi State Introduces HPV Vaccine into Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week

The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board (BSPHCDB) has incorporated Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination services into the activities lined up for the ongoing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week.

This was announced by the Executive Chairman of BSPHCDB, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, at the launch ceremony of the 2025 First Round Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week in Bauchi.

According to Dr. Mohammed, girls aged 9-14 across 323 Wards in the state, including those in schools, will receive the HPV vaccine.

The EC mentioned that  health week will also feature various health interventions, including Vitamin A supplementation, deworming medication, antenatal and postnatal care services, nutrition counseling, birth registration, and screening.

The Executive Chairman emphasized that the week-long activity serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure every mother, newborn, and child has access to quality healthcare services.

He appreciated stakeholders, including Gate Foundation, UNICEF, Alive & Thrive, Nutrition International, Solina, and CHAI, for their support in improving the state’s health system.

UNICEF Health Officer, David Audu, assured continued support for the government’s efforts to improve family health and education, stating that UNICEF will work with relevant agencies to achieve this goal.
