As part of activities marking this year’s Blood Pressure Day (BPD) Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board (BSPHCDB) and the State Ministry of Health, with support from Population Services International (PSI), have carried out a road awareness campaign, projecting the dangers inherent in not regularly checking BP.
The road walk campaign saw the staff of the Board and some volunteers walking the stretch of the ever busy Ran road and other major roads of the Bauchi metropolis disseminating key information about BP from a media van.
Some of the key messages were centered on the dangers of not knowing one’s blood pressure status which is being associated with many cases of sudden death, paralysis, stroke and aggravation of other illnesses.
At the Central market, the team conducted blood pressure checks and counseled people on how to maintain a blood pressure that is recommended in order to keep healthy, telling the public that symptoms like severe headache, high fever, stress, restlessness and anxiety are some warning signs.
Some of the beneficiaries of the free testing commended the organisers of the road campaign and encouraged them to sustain the tempo beyond the day.
The 2025 BP Day has as its theme “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it and live longer”.
Our Correspondent reports that every 17th of May is set aside by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness of the importance of checking blood pressure in order to keep healthy living.
