Bauchi Meat Factory to be Repositioned for Enhanced Production

In continuation of his familiarisation visit to Agencies and Departments under the Bauchi State Ministry for Livestock Development, the Commissioner of the Ministry Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi has visited the Bauchi Meat Factory.

During the visit and inspecting the facilities of the Meat Factory, the Commissioner expressed his optimism on the prospects of repositioning of the Factory by the State Government.

Dr. Lukshi disclosed that already there are investors willing to partner with the State Government with a view to resuscitating the Factory for optimal production.

Dr. Lukshi said that, there is hope for huge market awaiting the Factory as most of the facilities are still functioning.

The Commissioner was accompanied to the Meat Factory by the overseeing Permanent Secretary and also Director Veterinary Services, Dr Ibrahim Bello,and other Directors of the Ministry.

Similarly, the L-PRES team include Dr. Samuel Maina who represented the State Project Coordinator Musa Adamu One, the Animal Husbandry services officer Abubakar Isa Shehu, the Communication and ICT officer, Mohammed Danladi Abdul.

Earlier in a welcome remark, the General Manager of the Meat Factory, Alhaji Kabiru Abdullahi Makera, informed the Commissioner that, the Factory was established in 1964 and commenced operations in 1968 with the capacity to slaughter 250 head of cows daily and small animals 1500 with about 13,700 tons of meat.

The General Manager said the products of the Factory include: Fresh Meat, Offal Bones, Instant Shredded Minced Beef, Dambun Nama, Sauced Dried Meat among others.

He said that, the Factory was established along side that of Botswana and the meat was conveyed to other part of the country and neighboring countries by rail.

The General Manager further said that, the vision of the Factory is to be best and leading supplier of Halal meat and meat products in Nigeria, West Africa and the World.

Alhaji Abdullahi said that the visit of the Commissioner has boosted the hope of both management and staff of the Meat Factory for a full capacity production aimed at resuscitating the premier meat factory.
