Rita Simi Ibrahim is breaking the grounds in a job seen as the preserve for men especially in Bauchi state.
She is the first female driver to be employed by MSF in Bauchi
Rita Simi joined MSF last year as a driver having first worked as a sales representative some year ago.
Her love for driving started when she was young. According to her unlike other kids who started by riding bicycle she went into to car and had to bash her mum’s car many times.
That pays off as today she is working with a renowned organization delivering health care needs to people in Bauchi state.
She saw the advert for recruitment of driver detailing that females are encouraged to apply and she jump at it.
Though she had some initial challenges with the job that didn’t deter her as she had to go for additional training to become a professional driver in the midst of men
Even the community people when I past will say ah it’s a woman in the local language. A HND holder of Business Administration Simi wants more women to take up the challenge and join her.
Project coordinator MSF operating centre Geneva Jomah Kollie said msg in 2014 joined the global campaign to empower women having realize the need to have women in all aspects of their operations.
He noted that today MSF has women in supply, human resources management and at the hospital level and now a female driver.
