Bauchi State has been thrown into deep mourning following the death of eminent Islamic scholar and spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 102. The revered cleric, celebrated across Nigeria and beyond for his vast knowledge and lifelong commitment to Islamic teaching, died at his residence in Bauchi.

Governor Bala Mohammed, in a condolence message issued on Thursday, described the late Sheikh as a towering figure of faith, humility, and wisdom whose life’s work transformed generations. He noted that through his numerous Qur’anic schools and learning centres, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi mentored thousands of students, many of whom memorized the Qur’an under his guidance and went on to propagate Islamic knowledge across Africa. The Governor said the scholar’s contributions to theology, jurisprudence, and Islamic history have left an enduring mark on the spiritual and intellectual landscape of the nation.

Governor Mohammed added that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was not only a custodian of religious knowledge but also a unifying voice for peace, tolerance, and moral discipline. He assured that the Bauchi State Government will continue to honour the legacy of the late scholar by supporting Islamic education and community development initiatives he championed. He prayed for Allah to forgive the Sheikh’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, followers, and the Muslim Ummah the strength to bear the monumental loss.
