The Bauchi State Agency for People with Disabilities, in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has distributed food and non-food items to more than 500 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the state.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Bauchi, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Hon. Brisca Joram Aaron, said the items were provided as part of a relief package for victims of the 2025 flooding, which adversely affected several PWDs in the state.
Aaron explained that the relief materials were donated by the NEDC for onward distribution to beneficiaries, describing the gesture as timely and compassionate. She commended the Commission for its continuous support and partnership in improving the welfare of PWDs in Bauchi State.
While expressing gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his inclusive governance, Aaron revealed that the governor has directed that employable PWDs be given special consideration in the upcoming recruitment of 10,000 new civil servants in the state.
In his goodwill message, the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Muhammad Sani Umar, lauded the NEDC for the humanitarian gesture, describing it as “heartwarming and touching.” He also commended the State Agency for the transparent and inclusive template adopted for the distribution process.
Barrister Umar urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of government initiatives by acquiring education and vocational skills that would make them self-reliant, adding that Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment for all citizens, including PWDs.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Federal Government, NEDC, Bauchi State Government, and the State Agency for People with Disabilities for their continued support.
The event also featured performances by PWD local singers, who entertained guests with songs dedicated to the NEDC, the Bauchi State Government, and the Agency in appreciation of their efforts toward inclusivity and empowerment.
