The Bauchi State Tourism Development Commission has unveiled plans to establish medical tourism in the state as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand tourism-driven economic growth.

The General Manager of the Commission, Dr. Muhammad Nasir Yusuf, disclosed this while receiving members of Al-Mufeed Community Health Support Initiatives during an advocacy visit to his office in Bauchi. The delegation was led by the organisation’s Executive Chairman, Suleiman Abubakar Ahmad.

Dr. Yusuf said the initiative is designed to attract local and international patients by improving healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the quality of medical services across the state, in line with the vision of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to diversify the economy and strengthen social services.

According to him, the move would position Bauchi as a hub for specialised medical services in the North-East, encourage private sector investment in hospitals and diagnostic centres, create jobs, and generate sustainable revenue for the state. He added that integrating healthcare into the tourism value chain would also make Bauchi more attractive to investors and medical professionals.

In his remarks, Ahmad said the visit was aimed at exploring collaboration with the Commission to support healthcare development through tourism-driven initiatives. He expressed the readiness of Al-Mufeed Community Health Support Initiatives to partner with the state in promoting medical tourism, strengthening health facilities, building capacity for health workers, and improving access to quality healthcare for underserved communities.
