Bauchi State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, Amina Mohammed Katagum, has urged Directors of Planning, Research, and Statistics to be proactive and data-driven in strengthening planning processes across ministries.
The Commissioner made the call at the commencement of a three-day training workshop for DPRSs and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers on Data Management.
The event was organized by the Ministry in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA.
Amina Katagum emphasized that accurate and reliable data is the backbone of effective governance and informed policy formulation.
She noted that the State Government has established a Bureau for Statistics to support evidence-based planning.
The Commissioner commended UNFPA for its partnership in training 53 officers, describing the initiative as crucial for improving planning and decision-making processes in the state.
UNFPA Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst, Deborah Tabara, said the organization remains committed to supporting governments harness the power of inclusive data for policy development, planning, and budgeting.
She added that while progress has been made toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, more effort is needed to reach vulnerable and marginalized communities.
Our correspondent reports that the training aims to strengthen the capacity of planning officers to collect, analyze, and use data for effective governance and sustainable development in Bauchi State.
