Bauchi, Plateau Set Example in Tackling Malnutrition — UNICEF

By Danhassan Abubakar

The UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Wafaa Saeed, has commended the Bauchi and Plateau State Governments for their commitment to tackling child malnutrition through increased investment in nutrition.

She noted that Bauchi State’s release of ₦300 million to the Child Nutrition Fund (CNF) is a significant step forward, as the contribution will be matched by UNICEF, effectively doubling its impact and extending lifesaving interventions to more children.

According to her, the move demonstrates what is possible when government, communities, and development partners work together to prioritize the health and future of children.

“My message is simple: Plateau and Bauchi have shown what is possible when leadership, communities, and partners come together for children. Now is the time to go further, by releasing more funds for nutrition, investing in local food solutions, and scaling up community-driven initiatives that are already delivering results,” Saeed said.

She stressed that urgent and united action can ensure every child in Nigeria not only survives but thrives, as contained in a press statement issued by Susan Akila, UNICEF’s Communication and Advocacy Specialist
