The new UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Wafaa Saa’ed Abdullatif, has urged communities in Bauchi State to remain steadfast in ensuring that children reach their full potential through access to quality healthcare, education, safe environments, and social protection.
She stressed that these elements are essential for building stronger societies and breaking the cycle of poverty at the grassroots level.
Wafaa Saa’ed made the call on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, during a familiarisation visit to Ganjuwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State. The visit provided her an opportunity to interact with community members, traditional institutions, and local government officials.
Speaking with journalists, Abdullatif expressed satisfaction with the high level of enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by local authorities and community resource groups.
“I am encouraged by the dedication I have seen today. UNICEF will continue to support states and local governments with technical expertise to address challenges in immunization, school enrolment, sanitation, healthcare, safe learning environments, nutrition, and other areas critical to the wellbeing of children and women,” she stated.
The UNICEF team visited the District Head’s Palace, the Local Government Secretariat, and a health facility where malnourished children are receiving treatment.
In their remarks, the Deputy Chairman of Ganjuwa LGA and the District Head thanked UNICEF for its support and pledged to sustain efforts in promoting the welfare of women and children.
A key highlight of the visit was the launch of 10 bicycles donated by the Local Government Administration to a community resource group known as Fathers for Good Health. The bicycles are intended to aid the group’s mobilization and outreach activities in rural communities.
The UNICEF Country Representative was accompanied by Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office in Bauchi, along with other senior officials.
