Bauchi Humanitarian Ministry Treats Inmates to a New Year Feast, Donate Items

Inmates in Bauchi Custodial Centre have been treated to a launch feast in an effort to them  a sense of belonging in the yuletide season.The feast was organised by Bauchi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management in the spirit of the yuletide season at the premises of the Bauchi correctional facility.

Speaking during the lunch on Wednesday, Hajiya Hajara Wanka, the State’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, said that Governor Bala Mohammed mandated the ministry to have the new year lunch with the inmates in the spirit of the yuletide season so that they could have a sense of belonging.

Wanka said that the looks on the faces of the inmates suggested that the intended purpose of the launch feast has been achieved. She also expressed her hope and enjoined the inmates to turn a new leaf when, eventually they finished their various sentences and reintegrated back to society.

The Commissioner said that the Ministry’s delegation also visited the women’s wing where they interacted with them.

The Commissioner said that the women inmates had shared their concerns and also pledged to take their cases like awaiting trials with a view to having the government assist them.

After the launch, the Commissioner also donated non food items that includes: 250 mats, 250 blankets and 250 pieces of plates.

Responding, the Controller, Nigeria Correctional Service, Bauchi, Mohammed Isa, said the gesture was the second of its kind in the state.

He appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for finding it necessary to spend time with the inmates.

According to him, the Governor has always been supportive in order to ensure that the inmates feel comfortable in the facilities across the state.
