The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA),Bauchi State Branch has condemned the attack on one of its member Dr Mohammed Sani principal Medical Officer of General Hospital Misau by a patient relative.
Reacting to the development and reports on some online news platforms alledging incompetence on the part of the medical officer, the state chairman of NMA, Dr Adamu Sambo, said that the attack left the Doctor with axe wounds on his head and a fracture on his leg.
Sambo said the physical attack happened at the premises of the hospital on the 8th on July 2022.
The incident according to the NMA started when a woman was brought in to the hospital with a case of prolonged labour from a private hospital.
” Already the head of the baby was out and because she was weak a team of residents doctors from the ATBU teaching hospital on rural posting attended to her, carried out assisted vargina delivery using force helps.

“The patient came to the facility with eclampsia,a condition that occurs in pregnant women and could led to bleeding and other complication.
“After that, the woman was bleeding and the doctors had to conduct a surgery to investigate the cause of the bleeding and the findings was negative as the uterus was intact.
“When the bleeding continue the mother was then referred to Federal Medical Centre Azare for further treatment, and from reports the patient is recovering while the baby is at home”.
“The patient relative came to the hospital with an axe and demanded to see the Doctor, and when he came, the relative used the axe on him leaving him with cuts and a broken leg,
He said that the patient relative who is an uncle to the said woman was apprehended and handed over to the police.
According to the chairman, the association had constitute a committee that visited Misau to through investigation ascertained the true picture of what transpired.
Sambo noted that the stakeholders in Misau also condemned the action of the patient relative.
“All we want now is justice for our member who was not part of the team that attended to the woman.
“This is not good to the huge investment of the Bauchi state government in the health and the Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) signed with ATBU Teaching Hospital management for the posting of resident doctors for rural posting”.
